services secretary kathleen sebelius just days away from her testimony before congress. wende wendell live at the white house. >> reporter: there are going to be tough questions for secretary sebelius when she testifies before a house committee on wednesday. sunday's shutdown came just a few days after she assured reporters that the online experience was getting better. hhs officials say a verizon data hub went down. it's supposed to be back up now, but white house officials admit the system is still not operating as it should. a couple of democratic senators say the website's problems are reason enough to delay the requirement that people who can afford health insurance buy it next year. new hampshire senator gene shaheen wants a couple months' delay. joe manchin wants the delay for all of next year. meanwhile, kaiser health says hundreds of thousands of people have been sent cancellation notices by their insurance companies which is ammunition for the critics who challenged the president's promise if you like your insurance, you can keep it. blue cross officials say their subscribers are
their lives at increased risk. and hhs secretary, kathleen sebelius, is refusing to answer questions including specifically the number of people who have enrolled in new hampshire's health care exchange so far. joining me from her home state of new hampshire, senator kelly ayotte. thank you so much, senator, for joining us. >> good morning, candy. thank you. >> good morning. there is a -- a movement by senator lindsey graham to black all of the president's nominees until survivors of the benghazi attack are allowed to come and testify to various committees. are you on board with that tactic? >> well, candy, we've written several times, not only secretary kerry, but the president asking the survivors be made available to congress to get to the bottom of this. i understand we've been brushed off many times. i think that senator graham is going to be speaking to the administration about this, trying to cooperatively address this issue. it's not acceptable that they've not been made available. to say that there's an ongoing investigation in terrorism, that would preclude oversight by the congress
, they want people to have health care. they want to be able to show that this works. >> kathleen sebelius has been in the middle of this, carl, and is going before that committee on wednesday. what does she have to say? what can she do? >> i'm not in the -- giving cabinet secretaries advice. what has to be done is a show of recovered competence, and this has not been a very competent rollout. the president of the united states ought to be saying, look, we have screwed up in terms of how we have rolled this thing out. we're going to learn from it. but let's not be defeated, and let's not be put over on the side and marginalized by the fact that the opposition party has no interest in seeing this succeed. that's what people need to know. that's what bill clinton is talking about. the opposition party wants this buried, not for reasons of americans being healthy but for ideological reasons. once again the country is being ill served just like the government shutdown over ideology over the national interests which is what keeps happening with the republicans on capitol hill. make this thing work.
